BIO

Hello everyone!

My name is April Nguyen. I was born and raised in Arizona, but both of my parents are from Vietnam so I was raised in a blend of Vietnamese and American culture. I enjoy reading, playing with my cat, Yavi, and spending time with my family, friends, and boyfriend. I used to work as a phlebotomist and I have a very wide variety of phlebotomy experience ranging from patient service centers, mobile phlebotomy, and outside COVID site testing.

I am currently co-enrolled in Phoenix College and Arizona State University in the Applied Sciences Medical Laboratory Science program, and I completed my prerequisites at Mesa Community College. I am working towards achieving my BAS in Medical Laboratory Science to become a Medical Laboratory Scientist and work in a clinical hospital laboratory or research laboratory. My current research interests include identifying the type of handwashing technique and soap that is most effective at ridding bacteria on the hands and under the fingernails. I am advancing my research further this semester by including media cultures of each soap and handwashing technique category.

I'm very excited to continue my research as a TRAIN Scholar! Good luck to everyone in their endeavors!
